On Wednesday, October 2 Lutheran Campus Ministry begins a Midweek worship Service. We'll meet at 5:30 at the Rose House, our new Campus Ministry facility. We'll be using Marty Haugen's Holden Vespers, at least for now. The Service is about a half an hour long, or so. Afterwards, we'll serve a meal and have a simple bible study on the weekly lectionary texts -- the biblical passages you'll hear at Church the coming Sunday. We'll be done by around 7:00 pm -- so you can get some solid studying in after our time together.
At 8:00 our regular bible study will meet. I'm not positive what we'll study, but a couple of you have suggested Romans.
To get to the Rose House from campus, go east on Atwater, past Jordan, past Mitchell (where you'd normally turn back to 3rd). Rose is 2 blocks east of Mitchell (or 2 blocks west of Union, if you're coming down 3rd from the Mall). We're half way between 3rd and Atwater: 314 S. Rose Ave. It's a limestone house.

Lutheran Campus Ministry is involved in an annual service project which occurs in October. We collect canned goods from the spectators at Midnight Madness, the first official basketball practice for the IU teams.
This year, Midnight Madness is on Friday, October 11. Doors open at 10:00 p.m. and practice begins at midnight. Admission to the event is a canned good which will go to Hoosier Hills Food Bank.
LCM stands at the doors to collect the canned goods from the spectators. Because thousands of people will attend, we need YOUR HELP to collect the canned goods (then you can stay and watch the practice.)
We're meeting at Assembly Hall at 9:30 pm. Use the west entrance, the one closest to the Football stadium. The newspaper says that the doors open at 11:00 pm, but they in fact will open at 10:00.

Sunday worship on October 27th will be guided by a special liturgy at 8:30 and 11:00. At the later service this year's 9th graders will affirm their Baptism and have their faith confirmed by the church. The Confirmation Class is planning to write a new hymn-text for a familiar tune that will be our Hymn of the Day.
The liturgy of the Day will be in the spirit of the mass prepared by Dr. Luther in 1526. In keeping with his introduction of the mass in the language of the people, Luther devised a liturgy based on German hymns. In our version, a wide variety of familiar hymnody will replace the usual liturgical music of Lutheran Book of Worship. Come prepared to sing and to appreciate how the gospel is communicated wonderfully in the hymns and spiritual songs of the Church.
Dietrich Bonhoeffer has to say to singers and "non-singers" alike, "it is the voice of the Church that is heard in singing together. It is not you that is singing, it is the Church that is singing...Thus all singing together makes us see our little company as a member of the great Christian Church on earth and helps us willingly and gladly to join our singing, be it feeble or good, to the song of the Church."
