A Bloomington United town meeting, "Religion, Public Life, and Civic Values: Living with Diversity in a Democracy" will be held Tuesday, December 10 at the Monroe County Public Library, at 7 PM.

Panelists include:
Principal Sarah Franklin and Assistant Principal Bruce Law of Bloomington High School North;
Professor Jeff Isaac, of IU's Department of Political Science;
Pastor Annette Briggs, of University Baptist Church.

These presentations will be followed by community discussion.

Bloomington United is a coalition dedicated to promoting understanding among the diverse citizens of Monroe County. We hope that this meeting will be an opportunity to discuss that which brings us together--as well as that which keeps us apart. At this time of year, many are absorbed in preparations for Christmas. To what degree is it appropriate to bring such observances into public spaces, and in particular, into public schools? What is the experience of those who do not celebrate Christmas at this time of year? How can we as a community best honor the religious diversity (including those who are not religious at all) of our citizens and students?
