Men's Spirituality Retreat at Lutheran Hills — Perhaps the greatest challenge for a man is understanding his role as a disciple of Jesus in today's world and his role as father and husband. A Friday evening through Saturday mid-afternoon retreat featuring speakers Pastor Dennis Meyer (Bethany/LaPorte IN), Pastor Ron Luckey (Faith/Lexington KY), Ferando Velazquez (Christ the Savior/Fishers IN) and musician David Michael Carillo. Registration begins for the second Christian Women's Conference Triumphs and Transitions to be held May 2 to 4 at Valparaiso University. The fee is $95. The keynote speaker is Bishop April Ulring Larson of the LaCrosse Area Synod. Choose between 16 workshops concerning family, faith, walking the word, and personal growth. Walt Wangerin provides closing worship before dinner and entertainment to conclude the conference.

Scavenger Hunt (Confirmation & Junior High) 4:00 - 6:00 p.m. A Polaroid camera scavenger hunt! We will divide into groups and go out into the community to take pictures of items on the list. Fun prizes will be awarded. Supper is at 6:00 p.m., then Confirmation Class begins. Cookie & Valentine Party for Senior High, after supper. We will make valentines for the congregation and make and decorate cookies!

Senior High Youth Group from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. We will be watching the movie "Signs" and looking for signs of faith and God in the supernatural.

Vince Carr's BM Junior Organ Recital at 8:00 p.m. in the Sanctuary

Join two of the Brothers of Taizé Community, churches, university, seminary and high school students for the "Indianapolis Pilgrimage of Trust" at 8:00 p.m. in the sanctuary of St. Luke's United Methodist Church, Indianapolis. The purpose of the pilgrimages is to have a coming together to create a sacred space, to instill hope and to look for concrete gestures of reconciliation and peace. The Brothers' Community is an excellent example of diversity — they come from many different countries, Christian faiths and occupations. The Brothers are theologians, ministers, priests, physicians, farmers and craftsmen.

Bob Cutter has arranged for the Retired's Group to tour the Thomas Hart Benton murals in the IU Auditorium, which portray Indiana History, followed by a tour of the IU Art Museum. We will car pool from St. Thomas at 9:30 a.m., meeting and parking in the Union Building parking lot. The discounted parking fee will be shared by all. After the tours, we will lunch in the Tudor Room. A hot meal will cost about $6.00 and a soup and sandwich meal costs less. Please notify Lori Rowold or the Dormans whether you wish to attend . We need to know the number attending by Friday February 14.

Advocacy Days in Washington DC. An Educational and Advocacy Event for People of Faith Committed to Working for Just U.S. Policies toward Africa and the Middle East.

You are invited to participate in an ecumenical gathering in Washington, DC, that begins Sunday evening, February 23, and ends Wednesday afternoon, February 26.

The gathering offers two learning/advocacy tracks, one focused on Africa and the other on the Middle East. Both tracks will provide challenging speakers, issue briefings, and advocacy training workshops. There will be opportunities to speak with your Senators and Representatives in the U.S. Congress, or their key foreign policy staff, regarding Africa or the Middle East. There will also be common times for fellowship and networking, a keynote address and reception, and, on the second evening of the gathering, a special ecumenical service of worship for participants and the public.

Why Africa and the Middle East together? Recognizing that advocacy approaches share much in common across regions, Africa and Middle East advocates have joined together in planning this conference. The gathering is cosponsored by several church-related organizations:

The IU Bloomington Department of Near Eastern Languages and Cultures will present the inaugural Victor Danner Memorial Lecture in Islamic Studies at 7:00 p.m. in Jordan Hall 124. The speaker will be Huston Smith, the Watson Professor emeritus of religion at Syracuse University. His topic will be "The Master-Disciple Relationship". A reception at the Indiana Memorial Union University Club will follow the lecture.
