Tri Kappa's 8th Annual Arts and Crafts Show will be held from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at Binford Elementary School, 2300 East 2nd Street. Tri Kappa is a philanthropic sorority devoted to raising funds for distribution to local educational, charitable and cultural activities in the Bloomington area as well as Riley Children's Hospital and the Hoosier Arts Salon. Admission is $1.00 and 100% of the profits from the Arts and Crafts Show will be returned to the community.

The Rev. Gemechis Desta Buba is the featured speaker Aug. 24, Sept. 28 and Nov. 2 on "Day 1," a nationally broadcast radio program. Buba is pastor of Oromo Evangelical Lutheran Church, Atlanta, a congregation of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America. The broadcast may be heard locally on WKLU (101.9 FM) from Indianapolis/Brownsburg at 6:30 a.m.

BMDG Coffee Hour at 8:00 p.m. in the President's Room of University Club (Indiana Memorial Union). Dr. Yamina Mermer will speak on "The Meaning of Fasting".

Dr. Yamina Mermer was born in Oran in Algeria in 1958, and graduated from the Department of Theoretical Physics in the University of Algeria. She then went to England to further her studies, and received her MS degree from Durham University in 1982, and in 1985 her Doctoral degree in particle physics from the same university. Currently, she is a PhD student at the Islamic Studies program of Near Eastern Languages and Cultures Department, at IU.

This coffee hour will also serve as an information session for the fast-a-thon program organized by the IU Muslim Student Union and cosponsored by the Islamic Center of Bloomington and BMDG. Fast-a-thon is a community service event done by more than 30 Muslim student organizations throughout the country every year.

For Fast-a-thon, local businesses will donate $1 for every non-Muslim who pledges to fast from food and water during one day this Ramadan. These donations will be given directly to the Community Kitchen, a local food pantry in Bloomington. BMDG are encouraging participants to plan to fast on November 13th. Dinner will be served for them on that evening.

World Community Day is an annual event that brings Protestant, Roman Catholic, Orthodox and other Christian women together in a common worship experience that focuses on issues of peace and justice.

World Community Day is sponsored by Church Women United, a racially, culturally and theologically inclusive, ecumenical Christian women's movement celebrating unity in diversity and working for a world of peace and justice.

This year's event will be held at St. Mark's United Methodist Church, with Bible Study at 12:00 p.m. and Program at 1:00 p.m. based on Sister Miraim Therese Winter's transformational ritual, Circles of Love. They invite us to extend our circle of love as we build an inclusive community worldwide.

The Fall Assembly of the Indianapolis Conference, Indiana-Kentucky Synod, ELCA, will be November 9, Sunday afternoon, at Risen Lord Lutheran Church, 3758 West Whiteland Road in central Johnson County west of Bargersville and just east of Morgantown Road.

Registration will begin at 1:30 p.m. and the formal program will begin at 2:00 p.m., lasting until 5:30 p.m. All congregations are encouraged to attend with pastor, two lay delegates and any others interested.

The Indianapolis Chapter of the Valparaiso University Guild will host its annual Tasting Brunch on Saturday, November 15, at 10:30am. The brunch will be held at Pilgrim Lutheran church (10202 N Meridian St). Tickets are $15 per person. This year's theme is "Born to Shop." The program will be a style show provided by Plottner's of Carmel.

BMDG presents its second open discussion meeting on Islam from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. in Room 1C of the Monroe County Public Library.

Being a part of this society we see that people have a lot of questions about Islam. They would like to better understand Islam and Muslims. We hope that open discussion meetings will be a means to meet this demand by providing an informal atmosphere to exchange views on Islam.

You are welcome to ask any questions and/or express your impressions about Islam during these meetings.

Stewardship Celebration Banquet at 6:00 p.m.

We are ready for a "revival" and to welcome in the "new" St. Thomas. Please don't miss this opportunity for stewardship, good food and a great time. There is a sign-up sheet in the narthex, so we will know how many Pic-a-Chic dinners to order. A goodwill offering to help defer costs will be appreciated, but mostly we want you and your family to attend. We also need volunteers to help with set up, dish washing and take down.

This concert features the Madrigal Singers of Seymour High School as they perform portions of Handel's Messiah with organ under the direction of Dr. David K. Lamb. The Madrigal Singers have performed in many venues including New York's Carnegie Hall. Join us for a potluck supper at 5:30 p.m. prior to the 7:00 p.m. concert. If you are able to bring a dish to share, please let Michael Bennett know so we can provide enough for ourselves and the 32 singers.

Chamber Singers rehearsal at 7:30 p.m. in Heritage Hall.

The annual Eastside Community Thanksgiving Service will be hosted by Unitarian Universalist Church at 7:00 p.m. Reverend Bill Breeden will be the guest homilist, speaking on "Dare to be Thankful". Other congregations participating will be St. Marks United Methodist, Beth Shalom, University Baptist, St. Thomas, Mt. Gilead Christian, the Mosque, and the Cascade Monastery.

The service will feature readings, hymns, a massed choir, and prayers. Please bring a canned food item to be donated to the MCUM food pantry. Monetary offerings will be divided between MCUM and Church World Service.
