In the 2003 "Souper Bowl of Caring" 11,130 organizations like our St. Thomas Youth raised $3,540,770 for hunger relief both locally and worldwide.

BMDG invites you to "A Journey to Microcosmos" at 8:00 p.m. in the President's Room of University Club in the Indiana Memorial Union.

This time we are not going to have any speakers, but watch the documentary "Microcosmos" and reflect on the film together.

Microcosmos is a 76 minute documentary that took 15 years of research, two years of equipment design and three years of shooting. It chronicles one symbolic day in a meadow in the French countryside around Aveyron. It is directed by French biologists Claude Nuridsany and Marie Perrennou.

As usual, we will have tea and delicious, home-made food after the talk.

Schwandt, organist, festival brass and choir lead a Hymn Festival at 7:00 p.m. "Worship from the Heart to the Heavens" will feature organ, choir, brass, percussion, and piano with old and new hymns and commentary by Dr. Emily Brink, Calvin College, who will be joining us for the event. Dr. Brink will deliver a lecture the following morning at the School of Music (MA 407) on the topic of developments in hymnody and congregation song over the past 25 years. A Global Candle-Light Vigil for Peace will be held today. In Bloomington, it will take place around the Courthouse at 6:30 p.m. The solemn vigil supports the goal of nonviolence, and commemorated the first anniversary of the largest global peace protest ever, when more than 10,000,000 people demonstrated world-wide. Bring family and friends, candles or flashlights and say "Yes" to peace along with people around the world. There will be no speeches, but perhaps singing. Organized by the Bloomington Peace Action Coalition, and cosponsored by Bloomington Congregations for Peace.

There's a Place At The Table for you. The Wednesday Lunch Group meets for devotions, prayer and study of next Sunday's scriptures at noon in Room 3 for one hour. Bring a brown bag lunch.

LCM Students Midweek meal and bible study. We'll meet at the Rose House (314 South Rose Avenue, across 3rd Street from Forest and Wilkie Dorm) around 5:30, share a meal, and then begin bible study. We should be done by around 7:30. You can come late or leave early, as your schedule permits. Hope some of you can join us. We're continuing study of the Gospel of Mark.

St. Thomas Men are invited to attend weekly Bible Study and Fellowship from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. in Rooms 12 and 13.

Members of our congregation are invited to hear a panel of seven Bloomington clergy (our own Lyle McKee, Father Dan Atkins, St. Paul Center; Mark Calvert-Rosenberger, First Christian; Rebecca Jimenez, University Ministry; Rabbi Sue Shifron, Hillel Foundation; Thom Son, First United; and Jim Wood, Methodist minister and retired sociology professor) discuss ways faith communities are reaching out to gays and lesbians and the barriers to such inclusion. PFLAG Bloomington, an organization for parents, friends, and families of gays and lesbians, is sponsoring a program that's open to all at 7:00 p.m. at First United Church, 2420 E. Third Street. We encourage your attendance.

Rutter's Requiem...and more!
This afternoon of sacred music features the Adult and Children's Choirs of St. Thomas Church as they perform music by John Rutter. This exciting program consists of his Requiem (1985) and the Children's Choir will offer one of his more popular anthems, Look at the World. The concert begins at 4:00 p.m.

The Rev. Robert F. Sims, senior pastor of Lutheran Church of the Redeemer, Atlanta, is the featured speaker January 18 and February 22 on "Day 1," the award-winning radio program.

10th Annual Soup Bowl Benefit

Held this year at 6:00 p.m. at the Bloomington Convention Center. Tickets available at Bloomingfoods: $20 for a hand-thrown bowl donated by a local potter, soup, bread, and cookies. Six dollar youth tickets are available at the door only; paper bowls are provided with these. Proceeds benefit the Hoosier Hills Food Bank and the many agencies it serves. Special CD available with music by Carrie Newcomer, Beth Lodge-Rigal, and students from Clear Creek School.
