Men's Via de Cristo weekend at Lutheran Hills.

Via de Cristo is a Spanish term meaning "Way of Christ". It is a three-day school that takes a New Testament look at Christianity as a lifestyle. Via de Cristo is a highly structured weekend designed to strengthen and renew the faith of Christian people, and through them, their families, churches and the environment in which they live and work. It is a united effort of laity and clergy to aid congregations in developing Christian leaders to more effectively serve Christ in the church. If you are interested, please contact Ellen Mills.

March 5 to 8, 2004

The Lutheran Office of Governmental Affairs invites you to the second annual Ecumenical Advocacy Days, "I Will Feed Them with Justice," to be held in Washington.

At our last Advocacy Days in February 2003 we heard repeatedly from those who were here that they left encouraged and energized for our common witness for justice toward Africa and the Middle East, and we were urged to make this an annual event. And we have - a much expanded annual event, but still with a strong Africa and Middle East focus. This year's event includes not only the Africa and Middle East tracks, but also Asia, Latin America, Economic Justice, and Nuclear Disarmament tracks.

We retain the workshop and lobby day formats, together with our common worship and opening plenary and banquet speakers. Samuel Kobia, the new General Secretary of the World Council of Churches and former head of the National Council of Churches of Kenya, will be our keynote speaker on the opening night.

The complete schedule of events and the list of speakers and topics are online at www.advocacydays.org. Please check out the site and register. The special room rate of $89 at the DoubleTree Hotel is guaranteed at least until Tuesday, February 3, 2004. So register soon!

Over 200 children in Monroe County are currently in out-of-home placements as a result of child abuse and neglect. Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASAs) provide a voice for many of these children, helping to ensure their placement in safe, permanent homes. Each CASA volunteer gathers facts, attends court hearings, makes recommendations to the juvenile judge and monitors his/her case to make sure the child's best interests are being addressed.

Monroe County CASA is currently accepting applications for spring volunteer training. You must be 21 or older, able to commit to at least one year of service and able to travel to surrounding counties.

Classes will begin March 23. Call Sandy or Tiffany at 339-1551 or casakids@bloomington.in.us.
