Saturday August 21, 2004

The BMDG Exploring Faiths program will be visiting the Amish Country. This will be a great opportunity to get an idea about Amish religious beliefs and Amish way of life.

The group will be leaving from Bloomington at 9:00 a.m. from the Sam's Club Parking lot. It takes approximately 50 minutes to 1 hour to drive to the Amish Country. We want to leave early enough on a Saturday morning so that we can visit as many of the Amish Shops as possible while they are still opened early enough in the day, as many will start to close by early or middle of the afternoon. We hope to be back in Bloomington approximately around sunset. Anyone who may need to return to Bloomington earlier is welcome to head back to Bloomington at any time.

Amish Country Tour Points of Interests and Activities: 1. Traditional Working Amish Horse Carriage and Buggy Manufacturing Shop 2. Traditional Small Amish Community General Store 3. Traditional Working Leather Horse Harness, Saddle, & Collar Manufacturing Shop 4. Traditional Handmade Amish Quilt and Fabric Shop 5. Traditional Authentic Amish Country School 6. Amish Candy Shop 7. Visit and Tour of Willis Eicher Farm with possible Horse and Buggy Rides 8. Amish Benefit Supper and Auction at the Dinky's Center starting at 4pm (this event will be a great opportunity for everyone to see the Amish in action coming together for a good cause to help members of their community in need help.) 9. Many opportunities to speak directly with Amish friends to learn about their way of life, customs, traditions, and religious beliefs.

We also encourage any of the families to please bring their children. They will have a really great time and enjoy all the animals and the outdoor things to play on along with any of the Amish children nearby. There will be plenty for the kids to see, get to know, new friends to make, and have lots of fun.
