Orientation for Big Brothers Big Sisters of South Central Indiana at 6:00 p.m. in Room 2277 of the Indiana University School of Education.

Big Brothers and Big Sisters of South Central Indiana is currently looking for Indiana Reading Corps volunteers. Reading Corps volunteers tutor local elementary school students struggling with reading and reading comprehension. Volunteers meet twice a week for a half an hour each session.

St. Thomas Men are invited to attend weekly Bible Study and Fellowship from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. in Rooms 12 and 13.

Join us for a Weekly Worship on Wednesday Evenings (W3) Invite a friend or neighbor to come to St. Thomas for worship and fellowship, a quiet time during our hectic lives.

Gathering music will begin at 7:15. We'll learn some new music and share the old familiar hymns. Child care will be provided. Join us for this exciting new ministry.

LCM Students Midweek meal and bible study. We'll meet at the Rose House (314 South Rose Avenue, across 3rd Street from Forest and Wilkie Dorm) around 5:30, share a meal, and then begin bible study (1 and 2 Corinthians). We should be done by around 7:30. You can come late or leave early, as your schedule permits.

God in Gotham: Faith in the Modern American City

Jon Butler, professor of American studies, history and religious studies, and dean of the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences at Yale University, presents an Horizons of Knowledge lecture at 7:30 p.m. in the Georgian Room of the Indiana Memorial Union.

Butler is the editor-in-chief of the forthcoming Oxford Companion to Religion in America and is currently writing a book about religion in New York City, 1870-1960, tentatively titled God in Gotham: The Miracle of Religion in Modern Manhattan.

School of Lectio Divina at the Benedict Inn Retreat and Conference Center in Beech Grove.

Participants will flow with the prayers of the monastic community but also have teachings on Lectio Divina. The method will provide individual time, silence and help practice the Lectio Divina prayer form.

There will be daily Eucharist, Father Matthias Neuman, presider, and the monastic community and opportunity for the Sacrament of Reconciliation will also be available. If you would like spiritual direction during this week, please let us know.

An opportunity to learn about the agency, working in partnership with low-income families to build affordable housing. Qualified candidates must have a need for housing, the ability to pay a monthly mortage payment, and the willingness to contribute 250 volunteer hours building other families' home in addition to their own.

ELCA and I-K Synod World Hunger leadership encourages congregations to invite worshipers to bring one dollar or one non-perishable food item to church on Super Bowl Sunday. Congregations then deliver the items to local food pantries or soup kitchens.

Last year our congregation donated $426.19. Nationwide, nearly 2,000 Lutheran congregations participated, raising over $500,000. Collectively, this youth-led ecumenical and grassroots movement raised $4.25 million last year in the fight against hunger. Bloomington Community Band rehearses at 7:00 p.m. in Heritage Hall

Seekers Bible Study is beginning a new course on the Beatitudes using Kerygma materials and techniques at 7:00 p.m. in Room 7. Child care is available with advance notice.

In this series, participants will examine the Old Testament roots and context of the Beatitudes and explore the contemporary implications of these powerful words from Jesus.

You are invited to try this type of in-depth study of scripture using Kerygma methods and materials. A commitment to six sessions is requested. Meetings for the study of the Beatitudes are planned for November 15 and 29, December 13, January 10 and 24 and February 14. We do need to know how many will be participating so that materials can be ordered. There will be a fee of about $5 to help pay for the materials.

"Send A Message of Love Overseas" Tsunami Relief Benefit Concert at 8:00 p.m. in Alumni Hall of the Indiana Memorial Union.

The Student Alumni Association, IU Student Foundation, Union Board, Residence Hall Association (RHA), and the Interfraternity Council (IFC) come together to present "Send a Message of Love Overseas" a concert to benefit Tsunami victims. Ladies First, Straight No Chaser, the IU Pom Squad and the IU Essence dance group perform.

Tickets are $10 to $15.

On February 15, Pastor Mark Radloff from the Indiana-Kentucky Synod, will be at Rose House to meet with students who are interested in working at one of the Synod's summer camps. He will be at Rose House, 2-5 p.m.

The Synod maintains three camps: Lake Luther and Lutherwald in northeast Indiana, and Lutheran Hills, in northwest Brown County, not far from Lake Lemon and Bloomington.

Over the past years, students active with LCM have worked at these camps as counselors and staff.

If you are interested in working at one of these camps this summer, or if you just want more information, please contact Pastor Radloff and schedule an appointment for Feb 15.

What Do Congregations Do? Myths and Realities — Wylie Hall 015 at 4:00 p.m.

Sociologist Mark Chaves of the University of Arizona will speak on the 1998 National Congregations Study. His recent books include Congregations in America and Ordaining Women: Culture and Conflict in Religious Organizations. He also edited Financing American Religionwith Sharon Miller. He will also speak at the luncheon session of the Joseph Taylor Symposium in Indianapolis Wednesday. The visits are co-sponsored by the Poynter Center and the IU Center on Philanthropy.

In the panel, three students from different faith traditions will discuss the following questions from their own perspectives:

There's a Place At The Table for you. The Wednesday Lunch Group meets for devotions, prayer and study of next Sunday's scriptures at noon in Room 3 for one hour. Bring a brown bag lunch.

St. Thomas Men are invited to attend weekly Bible Study and Fellowship from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. in Rooms 12 and 13.

LCM Students Midweek meal and bible study. We'll meet at the Rose House (314 South Rose Avenue, across 3rd Street from Forest and Wilkie Dorm) around 5:30, share a meal, and then begin bible study (1 and 2 Corinthians). We should be done by around 7:30. You can come late or leave early, as your schedule permits.
