Eid (Bayraminiz) Mubarak !

Eid-ul-Adha ('Celebration of Sacrifice'), also known as the Greater Eid, is the second most important festival in the Muslim calendar. It marks the end of the Hajj, the annual pilgrimage to Makkah (Mecca). It takes place on the 10th day of Dhul-Hijjah, the last month of the Islamic calendar.

Come celebrate Eid-ul-Adha with your Muslim brothers and sisters this Thursday. The Muslim Student Union and BMDG are inviting you to share some good food and good company. Let's make this a B-town Eid to remember! We encourage you to come wearing traditional, ethnic clothes. The night will include a short talk by Dr. Yamine Mermer, dinner, and nasheeds.

The event will begin at 7:00 p.m. in the Grand Hall of the Neil-Marshall Center (best to use the Jordan Avenue entrance near the new, big red clock)

Citizens for Effective Justice CET is sponsoring a highly significant community forum on Saturday January 28th between 2-5 at the auditorium of the Library. The primary issues are "What can be done to reduce recidivism in the County Jail" and "How can we improve the criminal justice system in our county?"

Morgan Moss, who has in operation a ground breaking program in 5 jails in Virginia will be the keynote speaker. A panel including a judge, jail commander, city and county council members, and CET representatives will be featured.

Church members interested in Christian Social Relations are especially invited.

CET is sponsoring the Crisis Intervention Team project, the Life Effective Training program in the jail, and the Transition Navigators project, a program involving 40 people who will each be spending 5 hours a week helping inmates prepare for and deal with the myriad of issues surrounding discharge and return to the community.

A reception following the meeting will be held at Trinity Episcopal Church between 5-7.
