Monthly Emphasis for the Food Pantry

Focus for MCUM food collection during the month of June is crackers, quick bread mixes, and packaged side dishes.

June 1 to 3, 2006

Indiana-Kentucky Synod Assembly at the Downtown Marriott Hotel/Conference Center in Indianapolis

Keynote speaker is Dr. Mark Allan Powell, an internationally known theologian and Bible scholar who has achieved popular appeal among Christian groups for his work in spiritual formation and Christian identity. His latest book is Loving Jesus, a biblical interpretation combined with autobiographical thoughts and amusing reflections to guide you through the perplexities of contemporary spirituality.

The Assembly musicians are "A Bunch of Guys" — These three individuals gather together to make music and fight world hunger. "Every day, 24,000 people die from hunger or hunger-related causes. That's one person every 3.6 seconds — one person every time you take a breath".

Dave Pavolka and Those Assembled Jazz Sextet will play during the fellowship from 9:00 to 11:00 p.m. on Friday.

The prelude is an elaborate fantasia based on the Pentecost chorale that we sing as today's Hymn of the Day. The remaining two organ pieces relate to Pentecost imagery: the piece by American composer Samuel Adler comes from a wind collection; the postlude comes from a tradition of fiery French virtuosity.

The geraniums are provided today by the Worship Committee to the glory of God and in celebration of the choir and musicians of St. Thomas. These servants of God in liturgy are invited to take a geranium home following the 10:15 service as a token of our appreciation.
