Resurrection Lutheran Church in Indianapolis, Ind., is hosting a Stephen Series Caring Ministry Workshop from 9:00 A.M. - 1:00 P.M.

This workshop is an excellent opportunity for church leaders and other members to learn about the Stephen Series, a ministry system that equips and mobilizes laypeople for effective caring ministry.

At the workshop, you will experience a sample of the training Stephen Ministers (lay caregivers) receive, and you will take home practical knowledge and skills on "Ministering to Those Experiencing Grief" and "How to Care in a Distinctively Christian Way."

The four sessions (10/14, 21, 28 and 11/11) provide Lutheran perspectives on scripture, the sacraments, worship and the Church. All those interested in joining with St. Thomas as well as current members who would like a refresher are invited.

Come join the St. Thomas team as we walk together to build awareness about hunger and poverty. We'll begin at MCUM and walk approximately 5 miles to all of the local facilities that assist people facing hunger. Maps show options for shorter loops in the walk if that suits your needs better.

We are also raising money, so please consider donating to this important vehicle for fighting hunger and poverty in our local community and the world. Twenty five percent of the money raised stays in our local community and the rest is for global programs.

CROP Walk is sponsored by Church World Service, an ecumenical organization which includes the Lutheran church. Thrivent will also match funds, so make sure we know if you are a Thrivent member.

Work Day in preparation for open house.

Faith Communities Peace Witness — On October 27th a massive, permitted mobilization will convene in Chicago. United for Peace and Justice (UFPJ) has put out a call to all faith communities to join the peace movement in ending the war.

Bloomington Peace Action Coalition (www.BPAC.info) is organizing a bus to Chicago from Bloomington, Indiana. For more information, please call 988-1917, or e-mail BPACpeace@hotmail.com.

This is one of eleven regional mass demonstrations for Peace across the country. On Oct. 27th, there will be mobilizations in Boston, Chicago, Jonesborough, Tenn., Los Angeles, New Orleans, New York City, Orlando, Philadelphia, Salt Lake City, San Francisco, and Seattle.

Diversity Theatre and the Monroe County Public Library present MOSAIC, a diversity film festival at the library.

Films will address the issues of aging, disability, race and ethnicity. Films for adults will be shown from 11 A.M. until 4:30 P.M. and children's films will be shown from 11 A.M. to 12 P.M. and repeated from 1 to 2 P.M. According to library policy, children age 7 and under must be accompanied by an adult.

Snacks will be provided beginning at noon until the end of the festival day. There will also be arts and crafts activities for children.

Admission is free but reservations are recommended and may be made online by visiting mcpl.info or by calling 349-3050.
