Family Weekend at Lutheran Hills

A special weekend (Friday evening through Sunday noon) for families of all shapes and sizes. Housing is provided comfortable Shedron Lodge, our cabins, or tent/RV camping at our lake campground. For more information, check out the Family Camp page.

The 2008 "Coming of Age" Lutheran Men's Gathering will be held at the Hilton Hotel and Qwest Center in Omaha, Nebraska.

Featured speakers include Tom Osborne, interim athletic director, University of Nebraska, Lincoln. Osborne was head football coach of the Cornhuskers for 25 years, helping the school claim three national titles before he was inducted in 1999 to the College Football Hall of Fame. Nebraska's 3rd Congressional District elected him to three terms during 2001-2007 in the U.S. House of Representatives.

The Gathering's purpose is to bring men of all ages into a deeper relationship with God and assist younger and older men in building intergenerational relationships. A 48,000-square-foot interactive center will include room for building Habitat for Humanity sheds, high-ropes courses and other games.

For more information and to register, visit the Men in Mission Web site.

"The Devil Came on Horseback"

This film follows the journey of former US marine Captain Brian Steidle. As an official military observer, Steidle had access to parts of the country that no journalist could penetrate. The film uses the exclusive photographs and testimony from Steidle in the heart of Darfur.

PLEASE NOTE that this is an emotionally charged film with some disturbing coverage that will bring home the critical issue in Darfur and, more importantly, what we can do to help.

Each One Feed One Community Food Drive Volunteers Needed

Monroe County Ministries needs your help to make the third annual Each One Feed One Community Food Drive as success. More than 200 volunteers are needed on both Saturday and Sunday to collect our goal of 18,000 pound of food. You are needed to 1) collect donations at grocery stores in Bloomington and Elletsville, 2) transport donations from the stores to MCUM throughout each day and 3) sort donations for use in MCUM's Emergency Food Pantry. Volunteers will be provided with water and snacks and a boxed lunch will be available for volunteers working two consecutive shifts. Children 15 and younger are welcome, but must be accompanied by and adult. To volunteer or request information, contact Meri Reinhold at 339-3429.

Youth Group leader Doug Doblar has already promised MCUM he would supply them with 15 volunteers to sort at MCUM from 3:00 to 6:00 p.m. Youth Groupers and their families and friends are especially encouraged for this shift.
