CROP Walk (Communities Responding to Overcome Poverty)

August marked the 60th anniversary of CROP—the community hunger appeal of Church World Service—and the beginning of the fall CROP Hunger Walks season, in which tens of thousands of people in communities across the U.S. will sacrifice a few hours to raise money and show solidarity with impoverished people struggling to become self-sufficient. The CROP Walkers' motto: We walk because they walk! CROP Hunger Walks are unique in that proceeds benefit both domestic and international poverty-reducing efforts.

The lecture, "Reading the Old Testament with Martin Luther - and Without Him!" will reflect on three assessments of Luther as Old Testament scholar by Heinrich Bornkamm, Jaroslav Pelikan, and James Samuel Preus and will attempt to outline a method for appropriating the Old Testament today.
