National Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Week

Shalom Community Center, Martha's House, Stepping Stones and Mother Hubbard's Cupboard are colllaborating to bring a week of events to Bloomington, IN, focussing the community's attention on issues of hunger and homelessness. The educational and fundraising events invite Bloomington residents to "see more, learn more, and do more", while highlighting the need in our community and the work agencies perform every day to help people transition out of poverty.

Mayor Mark Kruzan, Valerie Haughton, Charlotte Zietlow, Jim Regester, Sheri Woodbury and Julie Ponce will live on the equivalent of the average food stamp allotment for a week ($21 per person per week).

Food for Thought — A week of Dining-Out Benefits

A portion of participating restaurants' sales will be donated to Shalom, Martha's House, Stepping Stones and Mother Hubbard's Cupboard.

Hunger and Homelessness Panel from 11:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in City Council Chambers

The culminating event for Hunger and Homelessness Week is an evening of comedy with Drew Hastings at the Buskirk-Chumley Theatre. Drew Hastings is a raconteur with lots of stories to tell. Tickets are on sale at Sunrise Box Office: $35 in advance and $40 at the door (includes 2 drink tickete).

Doors open at 6:45 p.m. for wine reception and show starts at 7:30 p.m.
