Today's music is offered for the church's celebration of All Saints' Day, a day set aside during the liturgical year to remember those persons who have departed this earthly life. The terms "elegy" and "cortege" are often associated withh memorial services: an "elegy" is a poem or lament for those deceased, while a "cortege" is a cermonial procession. Richard Strauss's setting of the German poem "Allerseelen" ("All Souls") is secular in nature, but it captures a mood of fond remembrance. While somber and reserved, the music offers an opportunity for quiet reflection and remembrance of cherished friends and family.

The rose on the altar announces the birth of Rey Moussa Henry Kante, born to Marta (Deibert) and Moussa Kante. He is greeted by his grandmother, Carol Seaman and great-grandmother Martha.
