Katosi, Uganda, February 8, 2003 — "Today, we visited the Katosi Fishing Development Association. Here, women have been empowered to make a difference for self, family, and community - the women are developing a sustainable fishing and agricultural program moving toward food security.
"We traveled with three of the women to their homes. With pride, they showed us their banana trees, vanilla beans, tree nursery and their respective cows. Each of their cows was to calve in the near future. The calves will then be given to other members of the group.
"A large meal was prepared for us. We ate outside beneath colorful tarps that had been erected to shade us from the sun. This was followed by African songs, drumming and dance. We all joined in. I played tag and hide and seek with the children. What fun we had together. Throughout this journey our new African friends have given us more than we ever anticipated. How thrilled we are that we can participate in this ministry of hope."
