Baltimore, May 16, 2003 — Even though conditions in Iraq remain unstable, first-hand assessment of humanitarian needs and activities there is now possible. Lutheran World Relief-related partner organizations in greater Baghdad are currently helping mothers and infants who are at risk from communicable diseases, assisting children with special health problems and hospitals that are short of medicine and food, and supporting a center for street children that was looted after the war but is now getting back on its feet. People assisted by these projects are featured in a photo essay at http://lwr-news.c.tclk.net/maaa5jSaaX1SMaVxOJCb/.
These projects are part of the "All Our Children" campaign, an initiative by a group of organizations including Lutheran World Relief to provide medicines and health care for vulnerable children in Iraq. The street children mentioned above are the subject of a National Public Radio "Morning Edition" story broadcast May 7, 2003, and available on the NPR web site.
