On April 3, 1960, St. Thomas Lutheran celebrated its official birth. Sixty-five charter members and their twenty-seven children organized themselves as a mission "town/gown" congregation. Meeting first in the Indiana Memorial Union, the congregation grew and moved to its present site in 1963. A sanctuary "in the round" is a unique feature of our worship life.
St. Thomas Church and Lutheran Campus Ministry continue to enjoy a mutually supportive relationship. In 1980 both entities approved a "Covenant for Ministry Together" which remains in effect today. The pastor of St. Thomas shares worship leadership with the campus pastor and LCM students worship and participate in the life of the congregation.
